Bamburet is the largest and the most picturesque valley inhabited by Kalash Located in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan, the Kalasha More
Bamburet is the largest and the most picturesque valley inhabited by Kalash Located in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan, the Kalasha people live in three isolated mountain valleys: Bumboret, Rumbur, and Birir. The region is extremely fertile, covering the mountainside in rich oak forests and allowing for intensive agriculture, despite the fact that most of the work is done not by machinery, but by hand. The powerful and dangerous rivers that flow through the valleys have been harnessed to power grinding mills and to water the farm fields through the use of ingenious irrigation channels. Wheat, maize, grapes (generally used for wine), apples, and walnuts are among the many foodstuffs grown in the area, along with surplus fodder used for feeding the livestock. The climate is typical of high elevation regions without large bodies of water to regulate the temperature. The summers are mild and agreeable with average maximum temperatures between 23° and 27°C (73° - 81°F). Winters, on the other hand, can be very cold, with average minimum temperatures between 2° and 1°C (36° - 34°F). The average yearly precipitation is 700 to 800mm (28 - 32 inches). The Kalasha of Chitral have been ruled by the Mehtar of Chitral since the 1700s and have enjoyed a cordial relationship with the major ethnic group of Chitral, the Kho who are Sunni and Ismaili Muslims. The multi-ethnic and multi-religious State of Chitral ensured that the Kalash were able to live in peace and harmony and practice their culture and religion. The Nuristani, their neighbors in the region of former Kafiristan east of the border, were invaded in the 1890s and forced to convert to Islam by Amir Abdur-Rahman of Afghanistan and their land was renamed Nuristan. Prior to that event, the people of Kafiristan had paid tribute to the Mehtar of Chitral and accepted his suzerainty. This came to an end with the Durand Agreement when Kafiristan fell under the Afghan sphere of Influence. Recently, the Kalasha have been able to stop their demographic and cultural spiral towards extinction and have, for the past 30 years, been on the rebound. Increased international awareness, a more tolerant government, and monetary assistance has allowed them to continue their way of life. Nevertheless the pressure of radical Muslim organizations increases more and more. An example for this is the closely to the Taliban associated radical Islamic Tablighi Jamaat movement, which is responsible for numerous assault over the Kalasha. Although there are heavy Kafiristani (today known as Nuristani) influences in the language, religion and ethnicity of the Chitral Kalasha, their unique culture and belief system differs drastically from the various ethnic groups surrounding them. The Kalasha of Chitral believe in various deities Mahadeo (Khodai, the Khowar word for God is also used), and worship other deities that offer protection to different aspects of life (such as Jeshtak, who represents family, pregnant mothers, and marriage). It is suggested that they are based on the Proto-Indo-European religion, similar to the twelve Olympian gods of Ancient Greece. Nature plays a highly significant and spiritual role in their daily life. As part of their religious tradition, sacrifices are offered and festivals held to give thanks for the abundant resources of their three valleys. Presently, these self-sufficient farmers are moving towards a cash-based economy whereas previously wealth was measured in livestock and crops. They celebrate the Joshi (spring) festival at the end of May each year, which they gauged by the movement of the sun. The first day of Joshi is "Milk Day", on which the Kalasha offer libations of milk that have been saved for ten days prior to the festival. Kalasha women usually wear long black robes, often embroidered with cowrie shells. For this reason, they are known in Chitral as "The Black Kafirs". Men have adopted the Pakistani salwar kameez, while children wear small versions of adult clothing after the age of four. In contrast to the surrounding Pakistani culture, the Kalasha of Chitral do not in general separate males and females or frown on contact between the sexes. However, menstruating girls and women are sent to live in the "bashaleni", the village menstrual building, during their periods, until they regain their "purity". They are also required to give birth in the bashaleni. There is also a ritual restoring "purity" to a woman after childbirth which must be performed before a woman can return to her husband. The husband is an active participant in this ritual. Kalasha women breastfeed in public. Although some marriages are arranged by families, Kalash boys and girls can also propose and arrange their own marriages. This, and the fact that females freely interact with males in public, have created a false impression among some that the Kalasha culture is sexually promiscuous. Fr Major General Kim Hour, who reassured to witness that when Angkar Leur/Cap Tren was killing Khmers madly during four years, had hidden in Neak More
Fr Major General Kim Hour, who reassured to witness that when Angkar Leur/Cap Tren was killing Khmers madly during four years, had hidden in Neak Luong Village, saw with his own eyes that Angkar Leur/Cap Tren was transporting too many Yuon immigrants to have hidden in Srok Yuon with all the properties from Cambodia in sequence on the land road (At night) and water way (Day and Night). Please do keep in mind; the Kompong Chamlaang Prek Neak Luong is the place for the ferry carries passengers/goods from one side to the others. (To ferry; to cross a body of water in a boat) To take a trip from Phnom Penh to Vietnam, they have to get on the ferry in Neak Luong. The respective influence of the Maoist Cultural Revolution, Stalinism and of orthodox Marxism-Leninism in the Khmer Rouges' ideology is still disputed. Whereas in 1954, the Cambodian communist party was more rural, Buddhist, and pro Vietnamese. 17 April 1975 was the beginning of the Genocidal Regime of Vietnamese Hidden Faces behind the Killing Fields that killed the people of Cambodia madly without a seemingly reason by borrowing the Khmer Rouges' hands. Therefore millions of people in Cambodia and I cannot forget the 17 April 1975. We will always remember and will never be able to forget that Angkar Leur/Cap Yuon Tren secretly told Yuon Bo Dois/Vietcong to collect more than 200,000 Yuon Citizens living in Cambodia who were freely, safely, happily, secretly and carefully accompanied on both water way and National Route 1 to Srok Yuon by Bo Dois, who could speak, write and read Khmer much better than 80% of Khmer peasants can, were in disguise as the leaders of the super-illiterate-ignorant Khmer Rouge yotheas and cruel former bandits who could not even read and write Khmer at all. In chapter 2, titled "The Politics of Starvation in Phnom Penh" Porter and Hildebrand attack the media reports of atrocities, as did Summers in Current History, because they were based on a single account written by Sydney Shandberg for the New York Times three weeks after the evacuation while cooped up in the French embassy. Porter and Hildebrand write, "The article was a weak foundation for the massive historical judgment rendered by the news media. It contained no eyewitness reports on how the evacuation was carried out in terms of food, medical treatment, transportation, or the general treatment of evacuees." Here, Porter and Hildebrand refer to the circumstances of post-war Cambodia, circumstances which they insist were deplorable because of U.S. actions that prompted the evacuation. Like Chomsky-Herman, they assert the evacuation saved lives. As above-mentioned, there are still too many bullshit-artist experts, who claim themselves very expert on Cambodian History, sitting in their offices scratching their heads looking for dandruff and lice are still in their hair, drinking nice cool soft drink or beer/champagne, piecing information together that they have collected wrongly from Khmers' enemies, is to say the evacuation was to save Khmer lives from starvation. In fact, that was a unique opportunity for Hanoi Leaders who have been waiting for a very long time to have their dream come true, whereas all the Cambodian victims of 17 April didn't take any notice of Yuon immigrants who were secretly collected and shipped back to Srok Yuon by Vietcong who were secretly disguised as leaders of the super-illiterate-ignorant Khmer Rouge soldiers. Why...? Because we Khmer Victims of 17 April were really in turmoil and all at sea. We didn't care about whether Yuon immigrants going home/back to South Vietnam or not? And there were so many Khmer Victims didn't even know who were collecting Yuon citizens, who used to live in Cambodia since the French Colonial Period, were secretly accompanied back to Srok Yuon by Vietcong and Vietminh who were secretly had disguised themselves as the leaders of super-illiterate ignorant Khmer Rouge soldiers. We all had completely fallen into the Dark Age of 17 April 1975. Did Angkar Leur/Cap Tren have any pre-planned tricks to evacuate Yuon immigrants before 1975? Why did the murderous-shadowy Angkar Leur/Cap Tren help to evacuate Yuon immigrants to be hidden Srok Yuon just like that? There are so many Europeans and other foreigners including super-illiterate-ignorant Khmer peasants and short-sighted educated townspeople who know nothing about Yuon Hanoi leaders' super-dirty demonic tricks are still terribly misled that all Vietnamese who were living in Cambodia before 1975 were all murdered by the Khmer Rouge. For example, a recent interview with a Canadian former Ambassador to Cambodia by RFA in 2003. That Canadian Ambassador who didn't see any Vietnamese boat people going home/South Vietnam all day and night who were well-fed, safely, freely and happily escorted by Yuon Bo Dois who were dressed up as the leaders of super-illiterate-ignorant Khmer Rouge soldiers.
