To date, he has recorded seven complete operas (La bohme, Tosca, Il trovatore, Werther, Pagliacci, Cavalleria rusticana and Carmen) in addition to various albums in the classical, pop, and operatic pop genres. He has sold over 65 million albums worldwide[1] Andrea Bocelli was born in Lajatico, Tuscany, Italy, about 40 km south of Pisa, in 1958, to parents Alessandro and Edi Bocelli, and grew up on the family farm. It was evident at birth that he had problems with his sight and after visits to many doctors, Bocelli was diagnosed with glaucoma. In 1970, at the age of 12, he completely lost his sight after an accident during a soccer game.[citation needed] As a young boy, Bocelli showed a great passion for music. His mother, Edi, has said that music was the only thing that would comfort him. At the age of six he started piano lessons before he also learned to play the flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, harp, guitar and drums. Bocelli would also spend time singing during his childhood and would later recall that he was "one of those children who would always be asked to sing for my relatives. I don't think one really decides to be a singer - other people decide it for you by their reactions."[2][3] At the age of 14 he won his first song competition, the Margherita d'Oro in Viareggio with O sole mio. [4] After he finished secondary school, in 1980, he studied Law at the University of Pisa.[4] After graduating he spent one year as a court appointed lawyer. To earn money Bocelli performed evenings in brothels.[5][6] It was there, in 1987, that he met his future wife, Enrica. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dulce Pontes (born April 8, 1969) is a Portuguese musician, songwriter and singer who writes and performs in many music styles, including pop, folk and classical music. She's usually defined as a world music artist. Her songs contributed to the 1990s revival of Portuguese urban folk music called fado. With a powerful and dramatic voice, she is one of the most famous and respected Portuguese artists. Dulce was born in 1969 in Montijo, which is a small city in the District of Setbal, surroundings of Lisbon. In 1991 she won the national song festival with her song "Lusitana Paixo" (known in English as "Tell Me"), which allowed her to represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest (she was 8th, which has been up till now the 4th best position of a singer representing Portugal in this contest)."Lusitana Paixo" litterally means Portuguese Passion. Cano do Mar (Song of the Sea),one of Dulce`a many international hits, was latter recorded by Sarah Brightman, under the name Harem.Harem was latter a #1 Dance & Crossover hit in the US for Sarah. Over the years Dulce has evolved to become a renowned star of world music. She easily blends traditional fado with contemporary styles and eagerly searches out new forms of musical expression.
