Philippines' quick gains from saintly Aquino image By Caroline J. Howard, ANC Posted at 05/27/2010 3:06 AM | Updated as of 05/27/2010 3:31 AM MANILA, Philippines - Congress has yet to begin the official canvassing of votes before formally proclaiming the country's next president and vice-president, but Albay Governor and Presidential economic adviser Jose "Joey" Salceda says, by virtue of the positive image associated with the Aquino name, presumptive President-elect Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III and his government is already blessed and off to a good start. Speaking on ANC's "Rundown" on Wednesday night, Salceda notes the advantage of a clean image, and the "Saint of Democracy" tied to the Aquino name, will also "spontaneously elicit affirmative reaction from international donors and partners and investors." With Aquino's ascendancy working to help correct existing perceptions on governance and control over corruption, Salceda says, not only will revenue collection be more efficient, there may be no need for the Aquino government to raise new taxes.
