Natalie Weiss performs ""I'm A Star" at Scott Alan's CD Release event for 'Dreaming Wide Awake' on January 7, 2008. CD available on CDbaby.com/scottalan and iTunes. BACKSTORY: Natalie Weiss recently graduated from Penn State. Two weeks prior to the CD Release Concert, I received a letter from Natalie telling me she was a fan of my music and would be honored to work with me one day. In it, she directed me to some of her youtube videos. I was extremely impressed. I invited her to take part in the next 'Monday Nights, New Voices' concert I produce (which showcases the best up and coming talent in the theatre scene). Skip to Saturday, January 5th, two days prior to the concert. I received a call from Carly Jibson that she had to pull out of the concert due to walking pneumonia. I needed to find a replacement and FAST. I called a New Voices alumni, Sarah Davis, to come sing two of the three songs that Carly was singing, but I needed someone to sing 'Say Goodbye.' EVERYONE thought I was crazy to ask Natalie, whom I had yet to meet (yes, you heard that right. We had NEVER met and only spoken ONCE prior), to come sing at a night of my music. I was willing to take the risk. I called her, she was thrilled, and we were set (funny enough, she already had tickets to attend the concert with some friends). On Monday, January 7th, the morning of the concert, Eden Espinosa pulled out of the concert due to a severe cold. I was panicking, but decided to ask Natalie if I could add one more song to her New York City Debut. Thankfully, she knew the song well enough to attempt it with a lyric sheet. With less then eight hours, this video captures why more people in the theatre industry should take chances as I'm a Star was the perfect song for Natalie Weiss to sing.
