Une autre forme de "sculpture", l'origami... Cet art est originaire de la Chine. Il est appelé jiezhi, terme qui regroupe les techniques de pliage de papier et de papier découpé, où le découpage prédomine sur le pliage. Le mot origami vient du japonais, oru signifie plier et kami signifie papier. L'origami japonais a certainement ses origines dans les cérémonies où le papier ainsi plié permettait de décorer les tables (le plus souvent les cruches de saké). Le plus ancien usage de l'origami en religion connu à ce jour est le Katashiro, représentation d'une divinité, utilisé pendant les cérémonies Shinto du temple Ise.
