Written by the band's Bruce Moody while playing bass guitar and touring with MCA recording artists Joe "King" Carrasco & The Crowns. Having no where to go for privacy in the hectic world of being constantly on the road, Bruce often retreated to his bunk bed on the tour bus; his very own "secret place". Bruce was never a permanent Crown, just a temporary filling. "Secret Place" placed third in Billboard Magazine's International Songwriting Contest in 1989. Here's some background on the group: Group members Danny Kristensen (guitar & vocals), Bruce Moody (bass guitar & vocals), Ric Plunk (keyboards & vocals) and Rick Richards (drums & vocals) were a strong force in the thriving Houston music scene (and beyond) for seven years. From 1984 to 1991, Private Numbers produced and released three albums, eleven music videos plus two television shows that featured the band's music videos as well as interviews. In 1990, the band wrote and recorded a wake-up song for the crew of NASA's Space Shuttle Discovery (STS-31) on the morning they deployed the Hubble Space Telescope. The song, entitled "Space Is Our World", used the music track from the group's song "Is This My World?" but with revised lyrics to compliment the occasion. As for the band's music videos, "we just produced them ourselves, without record company budget dollars and approval", says the group's Bruce Moody. With the assistance of Lonnie Pena, who made music videos for the local Houston cable access channel, the band planned and produced all of their videos without the benefit of the kind of budget dollars that come from a sponsor or a major record label. "Looking back now (in 2006),"says Moody, "the videos are what they are; nothing more, nothing less. I am very happy with many of the ideas that we represented visually and, in many cases I'm amazed at what a lack of production funds led us to creatively. One of the most interesting things I see in the videos is our always having fun in the process, even when the song's subject matter is quite serious." Hide
