The Art of Drinking June 8, 9 & 10 2007 Flying Dog Brewery • 2407 Blake St. Denver Let's face it, most art events would bore anyone to tears. On June 8th, 9th and 10th that will change in Denver. After hosting several amazing art events in Tampa, Florida, Bad Art for Bad People are bringing the fun to Denver. Flying Dog Brewery has been kind enough to lend us the space and lots of free beer to help make this an incredible party. We are anticipating about 200 pieces of artwork from artists nationwide, including some high profile artists. All the art will be available for purchase and can be taken home that same night. Prices for the art will start as low as $10! There will be something for every level of collector. Guests should expect some unusual Bad Art attractions like Weird Music from Little Fyodor, Ralph Gean & Get Three Coffins Ready, Create-Your-Own art (sock puppets), peculiar and colorful atmosphere, and Amazing Art. Flying Dog will be serving their great beer throughout the evening. Bad Art for Bad People thrives on showing high quality original artwork, which at times confuses attendees who are expecting to see only "Bad" art. No one should assume the ordinary when attending a Bad Art Show. We enjoy stretching the limits of what an "ordinary" gallery show should be. About Flying Dog Flying Dog is Denver's largest brewery and the second largest craft brewery in the state of Colorado. Their award-winning "litter of ales" are available in 45 states. The Brewery is located at 2401 Blake Street, just 2 blocks north of the baseball stadium. Tours are given weekdays at 4pm and Saturdays at 1pm and 3pm. Hunter S. Thompson, the infamous gonzo journalist, had a hand in the brewery's development, and the beers are easily spotted thanks to Gonzo artist Ralph Steadman, the packaging designer. Here is a breakdown of the artists: Mark Mothersbaugh -Illustration www.mutatovisual.com With DEVO, his most successful music project, Mark was able to showcase his artistic abilities on a larger scale, and to millions of people. Through their films, videos, costumes, LP covers, stage shows, and printed materials, Mark and DEVO forever altered commonly held preconceptions of how a rock band should function in popular culture. During his downtime on early worldwide tours with DEVO, he began illustrating on postcards to send to his friends, which he still creates, and has been creating every day for over 30 years; A very obsessive habit which still yields anywhere from 1 to 25 new images per day. These cards were originally created as his personal diaries, and were never intended for public viewing. That all changed when Mark decided to share his postcard works in his critically acclaimed solo shows during the 80's & 90's, and with his gallery tour in 2003 titled HOMEFRONT INVASION!. Pooch -Painting www.poochisland.com Pooch paints images that seem to exist in a bizarre afterlife. His art is a visual cocktail of these influences—with a shot of lowbrow culture—shaken and stirred, then served up in a souvenir tiki skull on the Day of the Dead. A self-taught artist, he owes much of his painting skills to over ten years of daily tattooing and drawing. Working in different series allows Pooch the freedom to explore various cultural symbols, but also keeps him inspired to dig deeper into those respective subjects. Meaning aside, Pooch's paintings are created to hold the viewer's attention, which is quite a challenge in today's TV and computer age. Pooch's technique is intensive, he paints the devil in the details. Stephen Blickenstaff -Painting/Illustration www.stephenblickenstaff.com The Cramps album "Bad Music for Bad People" is the illustration Stephen is most notably known for drawing. "I drew it on Halloween day 1983. I'm thrilled that my art was used to represent The Cramps!!!" Stephen currently does both illustration and painting.
