Here is a "Making of" comparison video of the storyboards, on set shooting, and the final video. The art of the storyboards was gathered from the book The Art of the Matrix-which i credited in the video to the artist Steve Skroce. Steve's original art was the Vast majority of what was used from the book. I only wish i could draw so well. The entire video was supposed to be shot on location. Well, in Indiana we don't have any locations remotely like what I needed so I took the chance of making the entire video against green-screen. In the end I would have something completely different, and like nothing we could have made "for real" OR-if it didn't work-I would have a big "Nothing". I did 2 proof of concepts and they were good enough that my swell boss Butch said go ahead and keep going-knowing that it was a chance-but seemed to be worth the effort and the risk. He knew I wouldn't stop till I dropped dead or the timer ran out to finish this thing-One happened and the other just about did... When you try something you have not done before-there are great risks-Time, Tech, Floods, Really freaky Cold Snowy Blizzards (and your main "Volunteer" actor is at least an hour out of town), finding answers to problems that were previously not even known they were going to be problems-like where do you find sheep...in Indiana...in the Middle of Winter...when TWO of the almost NO sheep "keepers" (because we don't have Sheep farmers here) fall through with being able to provide sheep...IN A SHEEP CENTRIC VIDEO (less than a week till Showtime)--that just doesn't fit into the production planning schedule-----But there was No Turning back at that point, and miracle upon miracle showed up. Here's just one of Many examples-I'll continue the sheep odyssey:-My friend Frank-who Amazingly found one of the first sets of sheep (that on the morning of the planned shoot-right after another Blizzard mind you-Fell through) Found the final sheep that were used-And they were Far better-in my opinion, than any sheep i had even imagined. I had never seen sheep like these-let alone hope to find some. And-these sheep had pedigree papers back to Biblical times! (He said they were called Jacob's sheep-I don't know, but they sure looked cool to me)--and they were Live Sheep I didn't have--Now--just Days before the video was to be shown. That's just One story. I'm not telling any others right here now-if you are even reading this-you are probably a very close True, Loyal, Friend and you can ask me in person. So, ending this little-or not so little-narration, I tried something different. i'm not sure if it was a success or not for its original intention. I was not able to deliver the Final in the form I had hoped to deliver it. It was certainly a "playable/Useable" piece, but a devastating experience for me to have tried so hard and to have come so close, and yet not have the final piece I had hoped for on the day I needed it--That still sits in a tough place with me even now...I couldn't even watch it play that weekend-and still haven't actually seen it play on "the GCC big screen". But I couldn't and can't live in that-- I chose to learn what I could from the experience and hopefully it will help better inform the next time we try something New. It won't stop me from taking those chances-what would be gained from that? It would just further the sense of failure. And so I picked up the pieces and actually finished the project on my vacation- the way I had intended. I couldn't "Not" finish it to the best of my abilities--whatever quality that may be deemed by the viewer. It's not just building a video-hopefully, it is building character. One day God may reveal to me why the final challenges made me unable to complete the vision in what was "my timing". Maybe He won't, but I can only do what my Pastor Mark Beeson always says to do-take my next step--do my next right thing-and that meant finishing it-which I have done. Maybe some day someone will be able to use this video for something that will make a difference for someone-and I won't even know it, or it might just stay here and get seen by my friends and relatives, but that's still pretty cool too. : ) Hide
